POSITION SUMMARY

Perform a variety of routine non-certified law enforcement functions in support of the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division. Investigate assigned criminal cases; assist with search warrant(s) and crime scene processing; conduct and compile personal and professional background investigations for Sheriff’s Office applicants and other investigative duties as assigned. Must be able to work variable hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

· High school diploma or GED,

· Two (2) years of increasingly responsible law enforcement related experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

· Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Colorado Driver’s license.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)

· Provide administrative support for Investigations Section; respond to general inquiries from the public; assist other agencies in responding to citizen complaints and reports.

· Investigate a variety of crimes; including but not limited to fraud, forgery, sexual assaults, missing persons and runaways, computer and criminal complaints, issue summons and court orders.

· Communicate with reporting parties, victims and offenders; as necessary, address violations, conduct follow-up visits to ensure compliance with prior violation.

· Prepare search warrants and assist investigators in crime scene searches, retrieve and preserve evidence for the use in court proceedings; provide testimony in court as necessary in support of actions taken and chain of custody of evidence.

· Meet with Registered Sex Offenders to process documents and update records; maintain, verify and investigate compliance for the Registered Sex Offenders residing in Moffat County; interact with other national and regional law enforcement organizations on Registered Sex Offender related issues.

· Enter, modify, update and retrieve data on a variety of databases regarding stolen and recovered property, driver’s licenses, vehicle registration information and warrants; receive, interpret and forward information to the appropriate court or certified law enforcement personnel.

· Compile information and prepare a variety of written reports, memos and correspondence related to law enforcement activities.

· Attend training consistent with assigned duties, including maintaining certifications necessary for the assigned role and responsibilities. Develop and maintain relationships with a variety of community organizations and law enforcement agencies.

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and so forth.

· Ability to deal with problems and stressful situations involving several variables in changing situations.

· Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

· Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

· Ability to pass physical fitness/efficiency examinations.

· While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects; ascend and descend stairs, ladders, ramps, scaffolding, etc.; move about on hands and knees; bend body downward and forward, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles; reach with hands and arms; speak and hear; and push, pull and/or lift over 50 pounds frequently and over 100 pounds occasionally.

Working Conditions

· Work is performed in an office, vehicle and in the field exposing the employee to various outside atmospheric conditions and possible bodily injury from moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools, or machinery, electric shock, radiation, explosions, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to persons who have contagious diseases/illnesses, volatile situations and imminent danger when performing the essential functions of the job.

· Working time may require irregular hours, shift times, and/or on-call status.
