POSITION SUMMARY
Supervises staff of approximately six employees consisting of mechanics, welders, parts technicians, and vehicle maintenance specialist; responsible for repairing and maintaining machinery and equipment; responsible for repair and maintenance of buildings and facilities; researches and recommends equipment and product purchases.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED; and,
- Five to seven years of progressively responsible related experience; or,
- Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License
- First Aid/CPR
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)
- Carries out supervisory/managerial responsibility in accordance with policies, procedures and applicable laws including: interviewing, recommending hiring and training staff; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; approving employee time tickets; approving leave; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Reviews and implements federal, state and county safety regulations and policies.
- Coordinates vehicle, parts and supplies purchases, including: researching prices; contacting vendors to determine availability; placing orders; and maintaining inventory and related records.
- Assists in the formulation of the budget; provides information regarding expenses; recommends measures to improve work methods, quality and performance
- Reviews repair/maintenance requests and assigns work to staff; interprets specifications, blueprints and job orders; assures repairs are properly performed and equipment is operable; assists staff in diagnosing problems; compiles parts lists; orders parts; checks warranties.
- Assist staff in performing various skilled mechanical functions, including: inspecting, diagnosing, and locating malfunctions; overhauling transmissions; diagnosing problems; rebuilding engines; fabricating and welding parts; calibrating equipment and repairing or replacing rear ends, clutches, brakes, hydraulic systems or other damaged parts.
- Oversees building maintenance and repairs including repair of all electrical systems.
- Oversees the maintenance and installation of County radio system.

IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains and upgrades technical knowledge, skills, and development by reading trade publications.
- Performs routine facility/garage shop maintenance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
