GROUND/FACILITIES MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs grounds and facilities maintenance duties, including: maintaining and performing minor repairs to equipment, grounds and systems; performing various landscape functions; and operating a variety of equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED; and,
  • One year of progressively responsible related experience; or,
  • Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Colorado driver's license (depending on assignment)
  • Certified Pesticide Applicator License (depending on assignment)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)

  • Performs grounds maintenance functions, including: mowing and edging lawns, ball fields, etc.; trimming trees and shrubbery; removing weeds; planting flowers, trees, etc.; raking and disposing of leaves; repairing sprinkler systems, fences, dugouts, etc.; preparing sports fields for play by dragging fields and applying lime; digging trenches; removing snow; removing trash.
  • Performs facilities operations and maintenance functions, including: maintaining equipment; operating and making minor repairs to facility equipment (Zamboni, playground equipment, tractors, fencing, etc.); maintaining ice rink and making ice; measuring and marking lines on the rink; painting interior and exterior walls, trim, etc.; cleaning restrooms, exercise rooms and other public areas; washing windows; assisting with ticket office and concession functions; and assuring lighting systems are properly programmed and working.
  • Maintains and repairs cemetery grounds and facilities; hauls dirt to fill in graves; oversees digging and marking of graves; removes snow from burial areas and cemetery roads; assists the general public in locating graves.
  • Maintains equipment and vehicles, including: repairing and replacing parts; washing and cleaning; and performing preventative maintenance functions.
  • Operates a variety of power and hand tools utilized in ground maintenance activities.

  • Performs routine maintenance on various power or hand tools and equipment including lubricating, changing oil and sharpening.

IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • May serve as backup for other positions within the department.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
