POSITION SUMMARY
Serves as lead worker and performs complex, skilled repair and maintenance functions on County vehicles and equipment, including: troubleshooting problems, diagnosing and repairing engines, transmissions, etc.; repairing and replacing defective parts; and performing preventive maintenance (tune-ups, oil changes, air conditioner servicing, etc.).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
· One year certificate from college or technical school; and,
· Three to four years of progressively responsible related experience; or,
· Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
· Incumbent must supply required hand tools.
Licenses and Certifications:
· Valid Commercial Driver's License
· Department of Transportation Brake Certification
· First Aid and CPR
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)
· Carries out lead worker responsibilities including: training in job skills, assigning, scheduling, and directing work, making recommendations in performance appraisal, and reporting problems to supervisor.
· Performs various complex, skilled mechanical functions, including: inspecting, diagnosing, and locating malfunctions; dismantling devices and making repairs; examining parts to detect imperfections; inspecting used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements; repairing mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems; fabricating and welding parts; and operating machinery after repairs to ensure problems have been resolved.
· Performs preventive maintenance functions, such as tune-ups, oil changes, air conditioning servicing, and lubricating equipment.
· Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, and other tools to make and repair parts.
· Initiates purchase orders for parts and equipment.
· Maintains all tools and equipment used in repair functions.
IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Maintains and upgrades technical knowledge, skills, and development by reading trade publications.
· Performs routine garage shop maintenance.
· Assumes the responsibilities of the supervisor in his/her absence.
· Performs other related duties as assigned
